Heartless man bathes wife,mother-in-law with acid
Will any man bath his own wife and mother in
law with acid
On the pitful saga of a mother of three and her own
mother after the husband poured a substance
believed to be acid on both women.
A woman, Simisola Olusi, and her aged
mother, are currently receiving treatment at an
undisclosed hospital in Lagos after the two
women were treated to an acid bath by the
woman's husband.
Simisola, 37, had been married to the father
of her three girls in the last 17 years, when
they were both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo
State as students.
By then, it was gathered that Simisola was a
fresh student while Ranti Olusi, 40, was about
completing his Higher National Diploma course
in the institution.
Immediately after their marriage in 1997, the
couple relocated to Lagos where they had
their three daughters. It was gathered that
sometime early in 2013, Ranti, got a
storekeeper job at Sango-Ota in Ogun State
which came as a relief to the family having
been out of job for close to four years before
then.
Once the man settled down at his new job, he
soon began to find excuses for his absence at
home even on weekends when he was always
away from work.
On many occasions, the wife had visited Ranti
in his office complaining of his prolonged
absence from home. In each of those times,
Ranti had always pleaded with his wife that
his new job would not allow him come home
as he used to do and that himself was missing
home.
On the pretext that he could not be shuttling
their Sango-Ota home and his office, Ranti
was said to have got for himself a room and
parlour apartment at Ifo town, along Lagos-
Abeokuta expressway. It was gathered that
he never allowed his wife access to his new
abode.
It was gathered that anytime Ranti's three
daughters were on holiday and they
requested to come meet him to spend their
holiday, the man would refuse ion excuses
that he seldom come to sleep at home.
But around March this year, Simisola was
informed by a friend about her husband's
amorous relationship with another woman in
his new abode but the former would not have
anything to do with the story.
She was quite sure the man that made her a
woman would do no such thing. The bubble
burst recently when Simisola surreptitiously
located her husband house and was shocked
to find a woman in Ranti's apartment. It was
gathered that Simisola was in the company of
her whistleblower friend the day she was
there.
On Saturday, September 13, 2014, Saturday
Mirror gathered that Simisola and her friend
were shown her husband's apartment when
she told two men in working in the opposite
house to where her husband's house after she
pretended to be Ranti's younger sister.
It was also gathered that when Simisola and
her friend opened the door to her husband's
apartment, a woman, half naked, emerged
from the sitting room and demanded to know
who they were to her husband.
A female neighbour to Ranti who spoke with
reporters but decline to give her name recalled
that Simisola had asked to see Baba Iretiola
when the woman in her husband's apartment
opened the door for them.
According to the neighbour, "When the two
women came in, they walked over to the
man's room to find the other woman dressing
up to go out. In fact, we did not know that the
man had another wife in Lagos.
But when they first wife and her friend arrived
in the house and found another woman in
Simisola's husband's apartment, there was an
immediate confrontation between the two
women," Simisola and her friend were said to
have beaten the new wife black and blue and
later returned back to their Sango base.
She was said to have assured the other
woman she would be back two days later
when her husband would be around to out the
matter to rest.
On the appointed day, Simisola, who had
reportedly informed her mother about the
development was accompanied to her
husband's house by her aged mother.
Apparently not taking anything for chance,
Ranti was said to be at home when his first
wife and her mother arrived at his house.
The woman neighbour continued, "The wife
and her mother were brought into the house
by a Lagos coloured taxi and when they both
alighted, they headed straight for the man's
apartment. By this time, many people had
gathered outside the house waiting for what
was to happen.
Suddenly, we heard cries from the parlour and
by the time we rushed there, the man had
sprayed them with acid," the woman said. It
was gathered that Simisola's burns were not
as severe as her mother's who was said to
have wanted to prevent the man from
defacing her daughter.
Saturday Mirror could not talk to Ranti. But
one Seun, said to be his relative, who was
summoned to the scene by another friend,
claimed that nothing had been heard of Ranti
since the incident happened.

I went into robbery for vengeance – Suspect
Lanre James is currently in police custody after
he was arrested for series of robbery
operations after he had caused untold
hardship to unsuspecting members of the
public. But he was bold to tell interrogators
that he did not choose to take to crime of his
own, but was forced into it when his
commercial motorcycle was stolen from him.
As far as Lanre was concerned, his foray into
robbery became apparent when his means of
livelihood was taken away from him by a two-
man robbery gang sometime last year. Again
Lanre, 21, who hitherto was not used to
robbery also believed that the best way to join
the criminal world was to go the way he was
robbed of his prized motorcycle.
So, the first thing he did when going into
robbery was to arm himself with motorcycle,
believing that the 'trade' was easy as those
that robbed him of his motorcycle had done.
So, the first thing Lanre did was to seek
anyone that could buy a motorcycle for him
which he claimed he would use for commercial
purposes.
But luck smiled on him when a woman chose
to purchase one motorcycle for him with the
agreement that he would repay the money on
installment basis.
No sooner had he got hold of the motorcycle
than Lanre and another partner-in-crime,
identified as Ramoni, started using the
motorcycle to rob people on major highways
in the metropolis. But the two robber-friends
also needed an instrument of force to make
their prey submit to their wishes, but since
they had no money to purchase one, they both
devised a means of realising their ambition.
They soon got a toy gun for their purpose and
commenced 'operation.' A secondary school
dropout, though, Lanre and his partner were
said to have terrorised innocent citizens in
parts of Yaba, Oyingbo and Ijora areas of the
state.
In the last couple of months, the two of them
had reportedly disposed innocent citizens of
their valuables as well as cash iof varying
amount. But luck ran against Lanre recently
when a resident reportedly alerted law
enforcement agents of the Ijora Division to the
atrocities of the two men using commercial
motorcycles to rob innocent people.
With this information, an ambush was
reportedly laid for Lanre and his partner-in-
crime but on that fateful day, the law
enforcement agents could only get hold of him
alone.
During interrogation, Lanre claimed that he
did not intend to become robber but chose to
when he was also robbed. He begins his story,
"I have been an unlucky child since birth and
my situation grew from bad to worse when my
father died as I had no one to take good care
of me.
" I came to Lagos a few years back in search
of greener pastures and I started living with a
friend of mine, Taiwo, and we live in Oyingbo
area.
Taiwo then took me to a business woman who
purchased a motorcycle and sold to me at
higher purchase, but the machine was later
stolen from me. It was at this stage that I
decided that since I have no one to turn to
again, I would also do what was done to me
to others."
Lanre recalled how two passengers he picked
at Idumota to Maryland area of the metropolis
dispossess him of the motorcycle that was
purchased for him by his benefactress.
"I was using the bike for commercial purposes
and paying the woman untill I encountered
two passengers who boarded my bike from
Idumota to Maryland. When we got to
Maryland, the two passengers forcefully took
the bike from me and told me that they
wanted to use the bike to rob and that I
should come back to Idumota to retrieve my
bike.
"I went to Idumota for two days but I did not
see them there. That was when I realised that I
had been tricked.
That was the day I made up my mind to
avenge the treatment meted to me. And it was
not long when Ramoni introduced me to
robbery." Lanre has since been transferred to
the State Criminal Investigations Department
(SCID) at Panti for further investigations while
a manhunt is now launched for his partner-in-
crime.
A source at Panti told reporters that Lanre was
cooperating with law enforcement agents in
their investigations.

My wife visits herbalists’
•Sometimes she says she is going for night
vigil, but when I call the pastor, he tells me
there is no vigil – Husband
•The court will give the respondent another
opportunity to appear in court before
judgment is passed – Judge
A 39- year old lawyer, Felix Kamalu has
petitioned a Lagos Customary Court sitting in
Ojo, Lagos State for the dissolution of his one-
year marriage with his wife, Stella Kamalu on
the grounds of infidelity, assault and cruelty.
Felix told the court that the marriage, which
was contracted under Customary Law on the
2nd of March, 2013 has degenerated, as the
couple has been living apart since April, 2014.
The petitioner recounted to the court how his
wife assaults him, saying, "My wife assaults
me regularly.
She goes out of the house without my consent
and sometimes without my knowledge.
Sometimes, she passes the night outside and
even visits herbalists. Sometimes she lies that
she is going for vigil, but when I call the
pastor, he tells me there is no vigil.
"If I give her money to cook, she buys food for
me from restaurants, claiming that she has
gone to church all day to pray for me. She is
not willing to submit to my authority.
She often denies me my conjugal rights.
Instead of seeking medical help for our
childlessness, she goes to native doctors."
Trouble started in the Kamalu family when the
respondent asked to manage one of the two
schools her husband has in Ajangbadi area of
Lagos State.
According to the petitioner, he discovered that
his wife lied about being an NCE holder, when
she did not really have SSCE.
He said, "I told her that those working in those
schools are Masters Degree holders and that I
have to train her first. She got angry, called
me all manner of names and threatened to
walk out of the marriage."
Giving an account of what led to his wife
packing out of the house on the 21st April,
2014, Felix said, "Her father called to ask for
money. He normally collects money from me
through my wife.
So on this day, I told her I didn't have any
money to give her. I spent over N1.2 million
on our traditional wedding, which I am yet to
recover from.
I just finished my MBA at the Lagos State
University. She accused me of not taking care
of her parents and she moved her things to the
house of our church reverend, Rev. J.A Ikbe of
the Assemblies of God church.
"I pleaded with her to come back and I
expected the pastor to call us for
reconciliation. One week after she left the
house, I called her father to inform him of the
developments, but he replied me through a
text message that I am no longer his in-law."
The respondent, Stella Kamalu was not in
court to give her own version of the issues.
Meanwhile, the Court President, Mr. H.A.B
Oyekan, ruled that the court will give the
respondent another opportunity to appear in
court before judgment can be passed. The
matter was adjourned to the 30th of
September, 2014.

FG provides N213bn facility to boost power generation
The inter-agency initiative of the Federal Government aimed
at ensuring efficient gas supply for power generation and
finding a lasting solution to power supply challenges has
announced a N213bn facility to help offset the legacy gas
debts and address the revenue shortfall in the power sector.
The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-
Madueke, who made the announcement at a joint press
conference held by the Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo;
Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin
Emefiele; and the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity
Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi; disclosed
that the facility was tailored to address the three key
challenges facing the power sector..
Mrs. Alison-Madueke listed the three key issues plaguing the
power sector as identified by the inter-agency committee to
include inadequate gas supply for power generation;
misalignment between electricity tariff and the true cost of
running electricity business; and the inability of power
generation companies to reliably produce the electricity that
is possible with reduced volumes of gas.
"With most of the operators having just acquired PHCN
successor Generation Companies, they could hardly afford
the reduced income due to the shortfall in revenues for
reasons that I have just set out.
"The newly privatised companies have borne the brunt of
these issues and consequent revenue shortfalls in revenue,
since handover last November. This is hampering much
needed investment in the sector and has slowed down efforts
to improve electricity supply.
"This scenario, which existed for several years has now given
way to recent reforms by the Goodluck Jonathan
administration and, as a country, we can now address these
issues with much more confidence that Nigerians will reap
the dividends of increased electricity supply", the Minister
stated.
Outlining the scope of the intervention that the N213bn
facility is designed to address, Mrs. Alison-Madueke said the
fund will be used to settle the legacy gas debts which stands
at N36bn; execution of agreed metering programmes and
procurement of transformers by distribution companies; and
execution of maintenance programmes and procurement of
equipment by generation companies.
The intervention fund which, according to the Minister, will be
provided by the CBN in collaboration with deposit money
banks, will be managed by a dedicated fund manager and
beneficiary companies will repay loans obtained from the
fund with a first-line charge on their revenues over a 10-year
period.
"There will be a moratorium on repayment of the credit
facility from the banks, by Distribution Companies, until
electricity supply across the country improves. This will ensure
that the cost of electricity for ordinary consumers continues to
be at affordable levels", she announced.
Speaking further on the modalities for the operation of the
intervention fund, the Minister said that Distribution
Companies, Generation Companies and the Transmission
Company will give commitments to deploy the funds to
address specific challenges as preconditions for accessing the
fund.
"They will also have to meet commitment to rapidly expand
their networks. This will ensure that more Nigerians,
especially in rural areas of the country, have access to
electricity," she stated.
She expressed optimism that the new measures introduced
by the inter-agency committee "will reset the economics of
the electric power sector, boost investor confidence and lead
to a rapid increase in electricity supply. We envisage
stabilising output of power at 5000MW and indeed
surpassing this short-term target early in 2015".

THE emerging scenario in the fight against terror and the
steps Nigeria's government has taken would have resulted in
global sensation during the cold war. The United States
would fight to keep their allies.
They would never easily lose any of their allies to then Soviet
Union as now represented by Russia which has, although,
embraced free market economy.
Nigeria, for years, enjoyed close ties with the West and was
seen as a US ally. But the seeming snub or nonchalant
attitude towards it by its traditional allies has reportedly
compelled Nigeria to turn to Russia and China for the training
of its military as well as acquisition of military hardware to
fight Boko Haram insurgents.
Highly placed military and intelligence sources in Abuja told
Saturday Vanguard that the decision to turn to the other two
world military powers was an interim measure to roll back
the military advances made by the Boko Haram insurgents
who have gained some grounds in seizing and controlling
some towns and Villages in the north eastern states of Borno
and Adamawa.
Already, Nigerian security personnel from the Army, Police,
Department of State Services (DSS) have been dispatched to
Russia for training as Special Forces to combat the Boko
Haram insurgents who are mounting stiff challenge to the
Nigerian security services.
According to Saturday Vanguard investigations, following the
increasing sophistication of the Boko Haram terrorists, the
Nigerian government approached American and British
governments to procure arms for its armed forces in order to
effectively counter the insurgents but the two western
governments have continued to dither, a situation that may
have been responsible for some of the gains recorded by
terrorists in recent times.
A senior security Source told Saturday Vanguard: "the United
States and Britain appear unwilling to provide arms to our
armed forces. It is surprising because these are two friendly
countries to Nigeria which is under threat from terrorists. We
have no option but to look somewhere else for our needs
pending when the issues are resolved at the diplomatic level
by our government."
This remark underscored the current lukewarm attitude of
both countries to the Federal Government. The USA had said
that it would not assist Nigeria with land forces and would
not also share intelligence with the Nigerian military. Sources
said that they did not trust the Nigerian military which was
accused of lacking professionalism and which also had moles
within. But Nigeria expected better assistance from USA,
Britain and the like. But their support has fallen below
expectation.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that one of the options was to
turn to Russia which has always been willing to supply
weapons and some other logistics to Nigeria when other
western countries are not forthcoming. The Nigeria Air force
has several Russian fighter jets in its fleet.
It was gathered that Nigeria has entered into contract with
Russian Arms manufacturers for the supply of high calibre
weapons to the Nigerian Army to combat the insurgents in
the North east and has begun discussion with the Israeli
government on possible supply of military hardware.
"When the Chief of Army staff said recently that the Nigerian
army would soon take possession of weapons that would
reverse the trend in the North east, he was referring to the
deal between Nigeria and some Russian arms
manufacturers. We are also in discussion with Israeli
companies. We don't want to be held ransom by our
traditional allies. That is why we are expanding our sources
of supply," the source said.
As part of the agreement between Nigeria and Russia, a
group of Nigerian security personnel are already in Eastern
Europe for training as Special Forces with another batch,
made up of the Army, Police and DSS billed to leave Nigeria
next month to join the other three batches that are already in
training.
President Jonathan recently, at the passing out parade of
cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy, said the armed
forces would set up a Special Forces Brigade to combat
terrorism in the country.

Let them say I will not dance naked!
I will neither dance
naked in the market
square, nor take my bath
with my clothes on if the
Super Eagles with Chief
Stephen Keshi at the helm
of affairs, nick a landing
place at MAROC '15.
Rather, I will keep more
faith in the Lord for His
matchless and never to be
paralleled miracles.
We do not change
because it is said that, the
only thing in life that is
constant, is change.
Rather we change because
life itself changes for it to
go on; and if we do not
change, life will go on
without us. So why not
change when the people,
who make life worth the
while are calling for a
change?
This is the crux of my
gospel for today and it
underscores why I have
decided to cull this from
the September 13 issue of
this newspaper.
